Graham Goddard Lecture - Update: Cancelled

Update: Unfortunately, Dr. Julien’s flight was cancelled earlier this morning, so we won’t be holding the lecture this afternoon.
Come out to our annual Graham Goddard Lecture, this Friday (March 19th) at 3:30 in C242 in the LSC! This year we have Dr. Jean-Pierre Julien, professor and Canada Research Chair in Psychiatry and Neuroscience, from Université Laval giving a talk entitled “ALS: recent developments in genetics, mouse models and immunotherapy“. It’s going to be a fantastic talk about the horrible disease process of ALS, as well as looking to the future for a cure. There will be a social in the grad lounge following the lecture.
Also, a big thank you to everyone who came out Friday evening and made the charity auction and dinner such a success. Although we haven’t tallied all the auction money, it looks like we’ve raised upwards of $1200 for ALS research and quality-of-life improvements. Thank you!

Brains on Film Contest 2010

Attention aspiring actors, filmmakers and neuroscientists!
The deadline for the annual Brains on Film contest is fast approaching - films must be submitted to the psychology main office (3rd floor LSC) by 4pm on March 5, 2010
This year we’re not only giving away a cash prize to the winning entry, but also screening the films of our finalists at the UNS charity auction and dinner for ALS on March 12. Do it for the fame, the fortune and (most importantly) the science!
Rules/guidelines
1. Films must be less than 5 minutes long and discuss a topic in neuroscience/psychology
2. Participants must attend high school or university in the HRM in the 2009/2010 school year
3. Submissions must be accompanied by a waiver

2010 Charity Auction and Dinner - In support of the ALS Society of Canada

It’s that time of year again for being charitable, and this year we’re hosting a silent auction and dinner in support of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Society of Canada. ALS is an all-too-common neural motor disease, which affects the majority of us in one way or another. Come out and support this worthwhile cause, and maybe end up with something interesting from the auction!
It’s going to be held on March 12th, 2010 at the University Club. Doors open at 6 pm and dinner is served at 7:00. Dress is Semi-Formal. Tickets are $25.00 ($20.00 student rate), and can be purchased in the shop, or by emailing uns@dal.ca, to pick them up in person. Unfortunately, there’s a $1.00 paypal fee for ordering online. Included is a three course meal of your choice of roasted chicken or a vegetarian pasta.
